The bonus gap is nearly double the pay gap, and almost nobody reports it
Every employer covered by the gender pay gap rules reports two figures, not one: the hourly pay gap that gets quoted, and a bonus pay gap that almost never does. Across the employers that file both, the bonus figure runs far wider.

Based on the 11,406 employers with a usable figure for both measures in their latest filing. Median difference (bonus minus hourly): 5.7 points wider.
Two distributions, the same employers
Hourly pay gap, all employers with a usable latest-cycle figure. Most cluster within 15 points of zero.
Bonus pay gap, same employers. The spread runs wider and further from zero in both directions.
Nearly equal hourly pay, a wide-open bonus gap
FACEBOOK UK LTD reported an hourly gap of just 0.8% in 2025 — close to equal at the midpoint. Its bonus gap, filed the same year, was 89.9%, with 99% of men and 95% of women receiving a bonus at all. The hourly figure alone would not suggest this.
KWIK-FIT (GB) LIMITED shows the same pattern at a different scale: a 14.9% hourly gap against a 90.6% bonus gap in 2025, with bonus participation above 95% on both sides.
It runs the other way too
The direction isn’t fixed. DIAGEO SCOTLAND LIMITED reported a 15.6% hourly gap in 2025 — men paid more at the midpoint — but a bonus gap of -53.7%, meaning the median woman’s bonus was larger. A single figure, in either direction, describes only one part of what an employer pays.
Why the bonus figure gets left out
The hourly gap is the number GOV.UK highlights first and the one press coverage repeats, so it is the one most people mean when they cite “the gender pay gap.” The bonus gap is filed in the same submission, under the same legal duty, and is frequently the more revealing figure — bonuses are discretionary in a way base pay usually is not, which is part of why the gap around them tends to be wider. See what the figures mean for how Remunify presents both, and what the pay gap number misses for the rest of what a single headline figure leaves out.
